Synolo Neo Receives FBI Certification for Contact Fingerprint Capture

The Synolo Neo now holds FBI certifications for both contact and non-contact fingerprint capture on the same device.

August 27, 2026 — San Diego, California. Synolo® Biometrics, Inc., a developer of fingerprint capture technology designed for all ages, today announced that the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has certified the Synolo Neo for contact fingerprint capture under PIV-071006 and Mobile ID FAP 20. The Synolo Neo had previously received FBI certification for non-contact fingerprint capture on the same device. According to the company, this makes the Synolo Neo the only scanner to receive FBI certification for both contact and non-contact fingerprint capture.

The Synolo Neo device was designed to capture and match fingerprints from birth to adulthood, utilizing a patented design that allows the device to be reconfigured for either non-contact or contact collection, as needed. Both configurations utilize high-resolution image processing and output standard 500 ppi images in formats that most existing AFIS and ABIS platforms can accept.

In separate news, Synolo announced that the Synolo Neo has successfully completed qualification for the NIST FastCAP test for contactless devices. Synolo Biometrics was listed among the first companies to complete the qualification testing and meet the requirements for contactless devices' ability to match existing contact fingerprints.
