Synolo Neo Completes NIST FastCAP Phase One Qualification Testing

August 27, 2026 — San Diego, California. Synolo® Biometrics, Inc., a developer of fingerprint capture technology designed for all ages, today announced that its Synolo Neo fingerprint device successfully completed qualification testing for the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Fast Capture (FastCAP) for contactless devices. Synolo Biometrics has been collaborating with NIST under the Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) program for the past three years and is now listed among the first vendors to complete qualification testing and meet the requirements defined in the NIST SP-500-339 framework for contactless devices' ability to match contact images.
This new NIST framework provides a set of protocols for testing and certification of contactless fingerprint acquisition devices. The Synolo Neo Fingerprint device used for this testing is designed to capture and match fingerprints from birth to adulthood, utilizing a patented design that allows the device to be reconfigured for either non-contact or contact collection. Both configurations utilize high-resolution image processing and output standard 500 ppi images in formats that most existing AFIS and ABIS platforms can accept. The Synolo Neo has previously received FBI certification for both contactless collection (April 2025) and contact collection (July 2026).

"The high-resolution, non-contact capability primarily addresses issues associated with collecting fingerprints of newborns and young children where distortion from a platen renders the fingerprint unusable, while the contact capability is optimized for older children and adults," Dr. Saggese continued.

The Synolo Neo is deployed in hospital, clinic, school and government identification programs in the United States, Europe, the Middle East and Latin America, including Brazil, where regulators are drafting rules for implementing infant and child identification.
